Botanical Garden's Love to the Humming Bird
He said "hello"
Hello, like a fresh, new breath
and I laughed... showing my thorns
though they were tucked inward
I cannot love you, I cannot love you,
my lips chanting
a red ruby-throated hummingbird
timid, but curiously pressing closer
Marquisette, he noticed
wrapped around my ivory neck
like a vintage memory
He told me later, he remembered my self assurance
how tall I stood,
my head tilting back as I laughed
"Can I take you away from this room?"
We step outside
I wonder about his dreams
his uncertainty speaks then,
and I ask... would he like his phone number returned
perhaps I am only an illusion
I kiss him, so delicately
and he is gone...
Shall I love you,
Shall I love you
botanical garden whispers to the hummingbird
yes, yes, she whispers
shall our hearts climb mountains
before rest is found
curving in a downward spiral
with you at the wheel,
and I sleeping, with dreams of you
yes, yes, she whispers
Shall I hold you, for the first time
and for always
horses without manes, but with wild tails
running in circles above us
yes, yes, she whispers
and when the dry wind, dies
Shall I carry you home
bleary eyed, and sleepy
in the dark hours and nights embrace
sewing your heart
against mine
yes, yes, she whispers
patient flesh
clinging to last minute kisses
Shall I love you, Shall I love you
Botanical Garden whispers
like the silent boats on the water
riding the waves in the moonlight
the trees branches, arching overhead
will you give me wind to hide away
so that when our heart sails fail
we can still sail to each other
Oh, My... raspberry-throated Hummingbird
Yes, I shall love you forever
