In Response To: Re: Are all rights equal? (Teece)

I would argue that many of the problems that we have, as a society, are derived from lack of responsibility and respect to go along with our rights. (beware, this gets a bit preachy)

Congress, the state legislatures, your local city/county can make all the laws that they want...they can clearcut massive forests to make all the paper to outlaw this and allow that...but until people take the responsibility to follow the laws, all that these laws become are statute numbers for the police to write on their summonses.

We, as individuals within this society, have to grasp the responsibilities involved in protecting it...not just from foreign invaders, but from apathetic self-destruction. We need to vote, we need to regain our involvement in this grand community that we call the United States.

We need to regain our common sense and not sue a fast food chain because the coffee is hot...or have a criminal sue because he/she was injured breaking into a building. If we see a child playing near a rainwater inlet, we need to stop saying "There's so-and-so's kid. Why in the hell don't they watch them better?" and instead take the initiative and look out for one another.

We need to respect our differences within the society, whether they are size, race, creed, origin, opinion, etc. It doesn't mean that you gotta like it...it doesn't mean that you gotta believe it...it just means that you gotta have tolerance of it.

An odd little analogy in closing: Singing, in many ways, is really nothing other than highly controlled yelling. You can be a yeller or you can be a singer. The choice is yours.

BTW- CAN I GET AN AMEN FROM THE CONGREGATION!
