I have seen "Something About Mary" and found the whole movie hysterical. I am physically handicapped in that I have multiple sclerosis (MS). For those of you who do know, it is a disease where the brain has certain of its electrical signals "short circuited". This causes a disruption in whatever was to be controlled by those nerve signals. It can be intermittent or continuous disruption. Yes, sometimes we can look like the man on crutches in the movie.
As with many other things people have to deal with in life, it helps to laugh at some of our problems. I was laughing with the audience in other parts of the movie as well. I did not take offense at the handicapped jokes and suspect that other groups didn't mind being laughed at (police, gays, animal rights people, senior citizens, the mentally handicapped, teenagers, etc.).
Actually, most people don't realize how hard it can be to pick up car keys when your body won't cooperate. At least this movie made it abundantly clear (even if the man was faking). And, this movie did not discriminate - it made fun of almost everyone.
By the way, I am also a BBW, and have been all of my life. This is in contrast with the MS which I have only had for five years or so. I do take offense when people look at me and judge me to be stupid or lazy, or without any self control. That is a battle we all have to fight every day. I get mad at people making such conclusions, not at movies like ". . . Mary".
