In Response To: I'm very angry at this woman right now... (Tina)

Nicole works for the San Francisco Attorney's Bar (not the place where ya buy cocktails *wink*), and she works HARD! I mean really hard! She thrives on meeting her goals and raising the numbers higher than that company has ever known. She's consulted upon by every employee in the office because she's found it important for herself and for the company to know the mechanics of her fellow employee's chores. Only problem is this, since she began working there two years ago, every lowly employee that began there at the same time--or AFTER--she had, has been given a raise or a more responsible position in the company. It infuriates her to overhear her supervisors tell someone who has a higher title than Nic' to GO to Nic' to find out how something should be done. One guy spent a great deal of time farting on the internet during work hours (and was chastised by the boss for doing so), but he was later given a higher position which included his own office. And yes, he still consults Nic' about the simplest things. Nic' despises this clown and her supervisors as well, but she's professional enough to grin and bear it.

She knows why she is not being rewarded monetarily (she makes 14.00 an hour which is incredibly low for a "professional" who's been with a big company for that long) or given a much better title. It's because she is fat she tells me. The more an employee ascends up the company ladder, the more they interacts with their clientele. Since she began working for them, they kept her on the phone collecting data and making inquiries. And even though she knows more about how that company works than the goddamn "newby" supervisors that stay 6 months and leave will EVER know, they prefer to keep her in a cubical "doing what she's so good at" (to quote one of her supervisors). I guess her suspicions for why they're keeping her down are valid.

And yes, she starves herself to lose weight so she can finally be recognized for her contributions to the company instead of being recognized for her "obesity" that would supposedly send clients running and screaming out of the office. I've convinced her starving herself will be a detriment towards her efficiency and of course towards her health. And by the way, the powerful clients she's gotten to know over the phone love her to pieces and depend strongly on her smarts. Hmmm...I guess they'd close their account with the company if they were to find out that bubbly, funny, intelligent woman was FAT!!

And yes, Nic's is politely vocal about her feeling underappreciated, and they always say they'll look into the matter. Well this week was the boiling point for her. She's quitting her job. Even though it'll look bad on her resume that she left without notice, she simply can't take the heavy workload and the mental anguish of not being rewarded for it. Heck! She gets paid what TEMP workers get paid! It scares her to be "out there" without a job or income, and I, as her boyfriend, still can't tell her what to do...I can just support her every way I know how.

So, point being, why the f@ck don't these representatives take our tax money and script a bill that will EDUCATED people of all levels of intelligence and professional standing about the virtues of human tolerance! To recognize a person's priceless skills over ANYthing else. Spend our tax money to break down the silly, archaic myths about people of size and their so-called detriment to employers. LOL...Nic' hasn't broken any chairs, used up her sick leave days, or stolen people's food from the office fridge. And when she leaves that company, they'll be spending an awful lot of time and money to find someone to replace her. It's hard to believe they won't feel like jackasses to realize they were responsible for losing someone ambitious that knew that company backwards and forwards.

It's all really so absurd, and this bill is going to make the situation much, much worse.

Les
